Experience It !
Innovative Work Experience Program Benefits Students and Business
It was at the suggestion of local businesses that the Dalby Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Dalby Development Committee was prompted to design a new, non-traditional student work experience program for the town’s youth. Working closely with the Skills Formation Strategy project and Dalby and Downs Industry Schools Co-Operation (DISCO), together the committee has come up with an innovative way to promote and foster work experience.
'Experience It' was created to better prepare high schoolers (14 years and over) for the workforce. The program, supported by all the local high schools, is run separately to the customary week-long work experience, providing the opportunity for students to spend an afternoon, weekend morning or a day during the holidays (excluding the Christmas period) at a chosen participating business in Dalby.
A free flag will be given to participating businesses to denote involvement and further promote the program.
The program allows students to learn about a chosen business or industry by having a taste of the behind-the-scenes action. This could be a couple of hours after schools per day or in blocks during school holidays
The program aims to facilitate learning in our community, and this practical, hands-on experience benefits the business and the student. The administration of the project will be undertaken by DISCO, Iona Building, 169 Cunningham Street, Dalby. Telephone Wendy and the team at DISCO on 4662 2147 for more information.
