Western Downs Town & Country Newspaper

“Connecting Communities” is the motto for the Western Downs Town and Country newspaper, a newly established weekly publication focusing on Dalby and surrounding areas.

It is a free publication, house-to-house delivered to letterboxes in Dalby town area. Bulk-drops are also made to selected retail outlets in Dalby and the towns of Bell, Tara, Jondaryan, Jandowae, Jimbour, Kaimkillenbun, Warra and Brigalow.

The paper is privately owned by Neil and Ann Lomas who have been producing free weekly newspapers in the North-North West Toowoomba Regional Council area for more than 20 years.

Neil’s 50-year career in newspapers started at the Western Star, the local paper in his home town of Roma and includes stints at the Toowoomba Chronicle, Gympie Times and the Warwick Daily News which was judged the best regional daily newspaper in 1988. Along the way, he spent a number of years lecturing in journalism at the University of Southern Queensland where he obtained a Research Masters in Journalism.

The Western Downs Town and Country runs from an office at 56B Patrick Street, Dalby and employs local people in news gathering and advertising sales.
